Julius & Clancy in Legos

If you saw the #55 April 2010 issue of Scoot!, you may have seen the incredible Lego creation by Canadian Lego enthusiast, Paul Hetherington. He created Paul Frank Industries' Julius the monkey and Clancy the giraffe riding in a scooter.

If you are a casual Lego user or (like me) haven't picked up Legos since childhood, you are probably in awe at how he was able to recreate these very recognizable characters.  Also, the details are quite impressive.

Another scooter-like gift for kids [the holidays are a'comin, ya know] is the Bimba Scooter by Pastel Toys. It comes in pink or blue and you can get it on Amazon for $95. If you like scooters and low-tech, then this is the toy for your kids.

Plush Ride-On Scooter for Kids

Manhattan Toy has released a plush ride-on toy for kids.
It's called the "Sit-Upons Scooter" and is for kids ages 18+ months. Supposedly kids can actually scoot along on it, but it might just be fun to sit on while watching TV. It measures 18" high and retails for $150.00.

I set-up a slideshow that displays items on Flikr that have scooter-ish tags. Sometimes really cool images come through and I try to highlight them.
This image was in the photo collection of aisaider2008 who has all sorts of old European photos. I just love this one with the decor on the scooter, the excited kids, their old style shoes and clothes, and the loving matriarch in the back. Wish I had one of these photos in my family collection!

Radio Flyer Scooter/Trike

I found this cool scooter from Radio Flyer. A sweet gift for kids that have scooter-envy and want to ride mom's or dad's scooter. The scooter comes in red or pink and is made for kids ages 2-5 years old.

I have seen it at some online stores for over $100,but decided to send an email to Radio Flyer to see if I can get a MSRP and high-res image for the magazine. Will keep you updated on what I hear. I've seen it for $79 on Amazon but I like to buy from local, independent toy stores.

New Storage Cabinet

On New Year's eve, Jon and I went to Ikea in search of a new display cabinet for my scooter collectibles. While there was a huge cabinet that would have looked great, the $300+ price tag was a bit much just to store my scooter toys. So, I ended up settling on the smaller Biby cabinet. It came in white or red, and while I was leaning towards Red, Jon convinced me that the white would look more industrial, almost like old dentist's furniture. So we got it and put it into Jon's new Honda Element. Once home he and our friend Christian put it together while I cooked out new year's eve gluten-free feast.

While our GF pot pies cooked, I stocked the cabinet and tried to divide my collectibles between the two cabinets. After about an hour I had my new cabinet stocked. The old cabinet (also an Ikea product, which is no longer produced) still had lots of stuff in it, all in disarray, but I was tuckered out and still had to serve dinner.

After dinner we celebrated the new year with some Dom Perignon and a roaring fire in the fireplace. I still haven't finished tidying up my old cabinet, but I'll post a photo of it anyway. : )
