Holiday Gift: Knit Scooter Gal

Ladies and gentlemen, start your needles!
If you have a gift for knitting, have some time, and want to give a handmade gift to a scooterist on your list, consider this knitting pattern for a girl and her scooter. I don't knit, and I can't vouch for how easy/hard this may be, but the finished result looks pretty cute!

Pattern available from etsy for $4.50. You can also check out other views of the project.

Holiday Gift: Department 56 Village Scooters

Every time I go by the Department 56 displays in stores I wonder why they don't have scooters. Well, it seems that they introduced scooters in 2008, but I never saw them, or my local stockists just didn't order them. Too bad for them-- they could have taken me for some serious money.

The Village Scooters are still available from Department 56 retailers. Two scooters for $20. If you have one in your ton, ask them to order them for you. or you can go to the website and be directed to online retailers that sell them.

One of the online retailers is Bronners who also sells this modern scooter ornament (but calls it a moped in the description, dernit).

Holiday Gift: Hello Lucky Letterpress Cards

I guess it's time to start the scooterist holiday gift guide. Some say that Nov. 2 is too early, but many of my picks may need to be ordered for delivery, so it's never to early to start! Today's suggested gift are stationery items from Hello Lucky! The company is run by two sisters who are based in San Francisco. While they previously had some other items with scooters on them, they currently sell:
While the cards can be useful for friends, I think the wrapping paper is the most useful. Order now for the holidays!

I'm in love with this Boogie on a Scooter calendar by Lili Chin. It is her art of her Boston Terrier on a a variety of scooters. Chin uses a variety of vintage scooters like a Fuji Rabbit, Maicomobile, Salsbury and more. This would make a great holiday gift for the vintage scooterist on your list!

Get it from Zazzle for 25% off now.

Holiday Gifts for Scooterists

Don't forget about the Sur la Table scooterist kitchen towels! $8

GQ Picks Vespa S for Gift Guide

American men's magazine GQ has picked the Vespa S150 as one of their 50 gift suggestions for this holiday season. Of the scooter they say:
We love motorcycles, but we don't know many guys who want to attempt balancing a dozen eggs on the tank of a Ducati. When you're running errands in the suburbs or commuting on congested city streets, there's nothing better than a Vespa. This S150 has the lines of the classic models from the 1970s, enough zip to shoot the gaps in moving traffic, and room under the seat for a six-pack. Your commute will never be the same.

Scooter Ornaments

Next on the holiday gift post thread...
One may say that posting about scooter ornaments on Nov. 3rd is a bit premature, but when you are bitten by the scooter bug, it is never too early to start. Besides, you want to get them before anyone else does!

Not sure if we can trust Walmart on this, as the photo is errible, but they are advertsing a Hand-blown Duck on Scooter Glass Ornament for $10.It looks as if there are pedals on that front wheel. If anyone finds this in the stores, let me know.Walmart also sells the repro elephant on a scooter for $48.

This Santa on a Scooter is cute, but is he $63 cute? According to the Table & Home.com website:
...these intricate handcrafted collectibles are mouth blown, hand painted and decorated by highly skilled artisans. Each glittering ornament features a small coat of arms charm identifying it as a Reed & Barton original, and is presented in an elegant keepsake gift box. Inspired by the Twelve Days of Christmas. Comes with special imprinted gold hanging ribbon. Decorated with authentic Swarovski stones.

You can also buy it for $70 at William Glen.Too rich for my blood, indeed!

Scooterworks still has stock of the Hallmark Santa on a Vespa. This is one awesome item that I highly recommend that collectors get. It is a great recreation of a scooter. The headlight lights, Santa waves, and it plays "Here Comes Santa Claus" if you pull on the present in back. If you missed it the first time, get it now for $24.95.

While it may not be an ornament, you could make one out of the Genuine Buddy model that Scooterworks sells. The 1:12 scale models have a real spring for the rear suspension, vinyl seating, and real rubber tires. Only $14.99 and in a range of colors.

Chistopher Radko makes collectible glass ornaments. This "Roaming Holiday" has Santa on a nicely detailed blue scooter. It retails for $50. Pricey, too but I am considering it. You must purchase through a retailer which you can find my visiting the site.

Holiday Gifts for Scooterists

In the build-up to the December holidays, I thought that I would start creating themed lists of cool scooter-themed gifts. I'll periodically post them through the end of the year. If you want to see past entries, search under "gifts" in the search bar, or click on the "gifts" link in the keyword listing in the lower right section of the blog.

Scooter-Related Books

Vroom with a View is the story of Australian author Peter Moore's mini midlife crisis that inspires him to go to Italy, buy a scooter that was made the year he was born, and ride around in search of the heart of Italy. Moore is a funny character and his journey is a kick to tag along on. Scooter content: 7 out of 10 stars

Gregory Edmont moves to France and discovers that the one sure thing to melt the frosty French heart is a dog. He decides to deliver his Dalmatian for studding from Paris to the south of France via Vespa. I'm not sure how he got a Dalmatian to patiently sit on the floorboards, but it's a fun story nonetheless. Also has lots of French food talk. Scooter content: 5 out of 10 stars

Graphic novel from San Diego scooterist Chynna Clugston (who also penned Blue Mondays)which has the Ace Face reduced to a Zero when he falls for a scooter girl. Scooter content: 7 out of 10 stars

English food writer eats his way through Sicily via Vespa. Lots of talk of scrumptious Sicilian food, but only a little scooter chat. Scooter content: 4 out of 10 stars

Fat, 480+ page book tracing the history of the Vespa. Not complete, but enough info to keep you plenty busy. Scooter content: 10 out of 10 stars

Before he wrote The Last Unicorn, Peter Beagle rode a Heinkel (yes, Heinkel) across the US, coast-to-coast. It was 1963, what else was there to do? Just kidding! A fun book to read. Scooter content: 8 out of 10 stars

A *must* for Lambretta fans. Lots of great info and photos. Fun to watch the recipient open the package & then start to drool.

You may be only able to get this used, but it is a great comic for fans of post-apocalyptic worlds and scooters. Lots of great scootin' action and an engaging story. Scooter content: 8 out of 10 stars

Better known as the artist of Watchmen, Gibbons gives "back to the future" another meaning with the very 60's feel to this futuristic story. The bikes are hover scooters!

Holiday Gift Idea: Personalized Scooter Stationery

I am a fan of Rock Scissor Paper from way back. They are having a short but tasty sale on their personalized stationery today and tomorrow. You can save 10% on your personalized stationery order by entering the code: thanks8 at checkout. I ordered their scooter stationery and love it, although I admit that I am choosy about who gets this special stationery. Order some for yourself and some or a friend!

The record theme is cute, too.

M&M Scooter ornament

Remember those commercials with the Green M&M acting all sexy & reducing the boy M&Ms to puddles? Well, here's another reason why Green M&M is so appealing.

Thanks to Norbert for alerting me to this fun ornament which you can get on the M&M site for $10.

Her flirty riding style, sexy boots and saucy scarf make this a great gift ornament. If only I looked so smashing when I rode! Love her custom pink Vespa. Blue M&M seems to be having fun on his motorcycle, but isn't nearly as stylish as Green. ;)
